It’s not easy being a creative. If anyone knows that, it’s Beyoncé.

In her recent, groundbreaking Vogue cover story, Beyoncé let us in on her personal self care-journey. Whether you identify as an artsy creative, a business person, an entrepreneur, or even an intrapreneur, we can all learn a lesson from the baddest, bossiest woman in the game. – Take care of yourself first, and the rest will surely follow.

Here are our top 3 Self Care Tips for the creator on the go…. inspired by the Queen Bey herself.

1. Recharge & Reflect! – Some days will be better than others. Sometimes you’ll full of energy, and performing at your peak. On those days, it probably won’t be difficult to pat yourself on the back. It’s not so hard to be proud of yourself when things are going well. But, what about the not so good days?

Be mindful of how you are treating yourself after a day of struggling to catch your flow. You know… when you just couldn’t write that scene, or perfect that design. Instead of being caught off guard by those mishaps, learn to embrace them as apart of the process. On both days, you are talented. On both days you are unique… and on both days, YOU have purpose.

It’s okay to take days off to rest or regroup. It’s better to take time off and come back stronger, than to run yourself to the ground just for the sake of saying, “no days off.”

2. Don’t be so hard on yourself! – Goal setting is something that creatives do by nature. We have a vision, and we know that it’s up to us to make it happen. We tend to be overachievers, whether the outside world “gets us” or not. Sometimes that super focused drive can be both our strength and our weakness.

I mean, we all know that pressure makes diamonds. However, we can’t forget that it also breaks pipes.

As a creative soul, you have a huge responsibility. You’re often creating something out of nothing, and have to see the unseen. That alone takes a level of inner stillness that only you can cultivate and maintain. When setting your own expectations, be sure to treat yourself kindly.

3. Have fun with it! – We were created to be creative. Whenever you feel yourself getting stressed out, take a breather and reflect upon why you started this journey in the first place. It’s very easy to get caught up in the politics, rules, and other situational differences surrounding our craft(s).

Instead of focusing on the negatives, shift your mind and energy towards your genuine love for being creative. Know that life will always come together in the end. When we allow our creativity to flow, our art just has a way of falling into place. Give yourself permission to have fun with it… and watch just how fruitful you become.

“I like to be free. I’m not alive unless I am creating something. I’m not happy if I’m not creating, if I’m not dreaming, if I’m not creating a dream and making it into something real. I’m not happy if I’m not improving, evolving, moving forward, inspiring, teaching, and learning.” – Beyoncé Knowles-Carter

As a creator, you’re often charged with the difficult task of being both your own boss and employee. You have to not only set the bar, but live up to it. As you embark on your journey continue to hold yourself accountable, but also give yourself space to be human. Being innovative is your natural born gift. Own it. Believe it. Do it. You’ve got this!
