There are some people who always seem to land squarely in their destiny. We all know these inordinately lucky individuals who consistently find themselves in the right place at the right time to meet their purpose.
By observation, recording artist, songwriter, and social entrepreneur Starshell could easily be placed in this category, but according to the multi-talented entertainer, these pivotal moments have less to do with luck and more to do with discipline, determination, and unrelenting work ethic.
At 29-years-old, Starshell has quietly built a remarkable resume in the entertainment industry with a stint as a child actress and model before transitioning into music.
By her early twenties, she inked a deal with Interscope Records where she co-penned Kanye West’s explosive pop hit, “Love Lockdown” which landed at number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and sold over three million copies.
Starshell would go on to co-write impactful songs for more industry vets before releasing her own single, “Superluva,” in the summer of 2010. With the subsequent iTunes release of her hit single, “Birthday Girl” and a clothing line of the same name, by 2012 the African-American and Brazilian artist had established the kind of multi-cultural fan base that allowed her to connect with audiences while touring with Jennifer Lopez and Enrique Iglesias, and Mary J. Blige and D’Angelo.
Clearly, Starshell is an artist who knows how to carve out her own path to success. Watch this Mogul Minute as she shares 4 ways to create your own opportunities in the music industry.
